IntroIt’s been a while since the last time i update this blog. As you can see from the last post before this, I use Sony VAIO VPCEA16FG notebook for work and gaming. It’s performing great for 15 months now. But then, recently, the left part of the keyboard felt rather hot than it was.
So I download HWMonitor (64bit version) and checked the CPU temperature of my notebook. The result is 48 – 51 Celsius at 5 minutes after I start it up, and leave it idle. And after I run MS Flight Simulator for around 10 minutes, it jumps to 85 – 88 Celsius, and the fan starts roaring that reminds me of an airplane getting ready to take off. It’s trying it’s best to cool down the hot temperature by spinning faster. But it failed. The CPU temperature is still around 85 – 88 Celsius.
After googling here and there, I found that many people have this problem too. This is caused by thick dusts on the fan. Blocking the airflow that supposed to release the heat. The cure is, of course, by cleaning up the dusts. So I gathered my guts to disassemble my VPCEA16FG by myself, and took some pictures I to make a little documentation. I hope this guide can help people with their overheating VAIO notebook.

A few months ago, I was a happy Sony VAIO VPCEA16FG user. It has everything I want and need. One feature that I like is Battery Care. What this Battery Care does is limiting the battery charge to a certain level to extend the battery lifetime, and in the end will slow down the battery degradation. It comes with 2 presets. 80% if you usually use the computer with battery power, and 50% if you usually use the computer with the AC adapter. So basically if you set it on 80%, then whenever the battery charged to 80%, it will say it’s full. Same thing with 50%, it will say the battery is full whenever the battery charged to 50%.
This Battery Care can be found inside VAIO Control Center application. And after tons of VAIO software updates, windows updates, install / uninstall a lot of software, one day I found out that my battery says it has 100% power. What the…? It was supposed to be limited at 50% since I mostly use it while on AC adapter. So I opened up VAIO Control Center, and *boom*. I got this ugly window saying VAIO Control Center has stopped working. ![]()
I Googled it and got no solution at all. And after days of headache, I fixed it by myself. This is how I did it.
Once restarted, I can run the VAIO Control Center again to set the Battery Care feature on, and set it back to 50%. Now I’m happy once again… ![]()
I hope these steps may help you dealing with the VAIO Control Center has stopped working problem.
Lately I became addicted to papercraft. And a few weeks ago, I tried to join a Korean online papercraft community. I was surprised that my browser cannot display the Korean characters (Hangul CMIIW) properly. It only showed up as squares with small numbers.
As far as I know, I already installed the files for East Asian languages. I tried to open some random Chinese and Japanese websites. They all showed up fine. My system only can’t display Korean characters properly!
Although I can’t read any Korean character, at least I can tell the difference between words in that Korean web, if my browser can display them properly.
This of course troubled me a lot.
Most of us have heard about computer virus, computer worms, or trojans. They are simply a (usually) small sized computer program, specially designed to damage other people’s systems. Once this virus or worm successfully infects a system, it will try to spread out to other systems to create greater damages. They corrupt files, slows down the system, clone themselves as much as possible, steal data or password, etc. Scary! Millions of losses have been caused by these malwares. In this article, I’d like to share my tips and tricks to help preventing your system from getting infected, or worse, damaged by these malwares.
Malwares evolutes rapidly every day. They got more and more features to get more success rate infecting the target systems. The creators of these malwares also find more and more creative ways to increase the chance to spread around their malwares. One of them, is to trick users with little knowledge of computer systems. The trick is by arming their malwares with the innocent look. Yes, they made them looks like the files or directory people would click everyday. They will try to mime many common files found in everybody’s computer, ie. image files, spreadsheet files, directories or folders, etc. All by simply using the same icon the system used to display our files or directories. If people clicked these “innocent looked” malwares, then they are going to be executed in the system. Which will trigger the infection. But what if we can identify these impostors just by looking at them? It would be cool right? Errr… no?
Do you feel bored with your room? Want to add something different to refresh it? How about adding a poster of your favorite picture?
It can be a picture of your favorite actor or actress, a picture of your family members (boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, children, etc.), a funny picture from your favorite cartoon, or any picture that makes you feel happy, fun, motivated, and refreshed whenever you’re looking at it. The picture selection is important here, since you’re going to look at it every time you enter your room. If by looking at this poster makes you feel better after your hard day at work or school, then it’s a good choice. Ok, let’s go on…
Almost everyday we search something on our favorite search engines, be it Google, Yahoo!, MSN, etc. We ask these search engines to find websites that’s related or having relations with the keywords we entered. If we enter “kitchen appliances” in the search box, we will get the site lists which has some content related to kitchen and it’s appliances. I’m sure most of us already know that long time ago.
Yesterday, a friend which also my co-worker showed me a logo and asked me, “Do you know what is the name of font used in this logo? Perhaps you recognized a name? I need it for my presentation slides.” I said, “There are tons of fonts existed in this world, and there’s no way I can recognize which fonts is this. I doubt I can recognize this fonts. But I’ll check the internet.”
Then I started to search something to help him solve this problem. I found several font search engines. Where you can type the fonts’ name you would like to download (or buy if it’s not free) in the search box, and you’ll get the list of the fonts that named as what you typed. If you typed “Impact”, then these fonts search engines will show you the links to get it. But of course these search engines cannot help my friend. We don’t have a clue what is this fonts’ name. All we have is the logo in .PNG format.
After searching for more information about this problem, finally I found something new to myself. It’s a font search engine based on how they look in an picture file. I didn’t know this thing exists. Neat huh?
Playing Mafia Wars in Facebook is very addictive for a lot of people
, including me.
A few days ago me and my friends played together. We exchanged loots, collections, etc. And then we compare our earned achievements. There is one achievement called “Spreading it around” which can be earned by gifting loots, weapons, armors, vehicles, or even collections to your mafia friends. It must be done 501 times where every item counts as 1. So when I give 5 Grenades to my friend, it counts as 5.
If you already know how to run your VirtualBox Virtual Machine as service, now you can run multiple VMs as service, all at once… Pretty cool isn’t it?
Here is how we are going to do that…
After days of googling and a lot of trial and errors, I finally succeed running virtualbox as service. I tried VBoxVmService by mattz but have no luck. Then I tried another method with srvstart and Windows Service Commander explained here. It works for one Virtual Machine, but not for multiple Virtual Machines. While I need to run three Virtual Machines simultaneously. All without any user logged on! OK, enough talking, let’s start the tutorial…
