This morning, I rode my motorbike to work as usual. The traffic on the way to the place I work was awfully jammed. The city where I live is well known for it’s traffic jam. For some reason I felt different today. I didn’t know what it is. But I didn’t think too much. I just concentrated to the motorbikes and busses around me. Keeping me at the safe distance from them. Sometimes I think driving cars and especially riding motorbikes here has no difference with Fear Factor TV program. Pumping up your adrenaline and can push you to the limit where you’ll say, “OK, I really want to punch this jerk in the face!”.
I won’t explain why here. You’ll understand if you take a ride sometimes in Jakarta.
Shortly, I arrived at my office. My cell phone rang. A text from my father. It says, “be careful. a BOMB just exploded in KUNINGAN!”. I felt a bit shocked. KUNINGAN is a crowded business district in my city Jakarta. And it’s not too far from the place I work. I turned on my notebook and browsed the internet. Trying to find what happened this morning at Kuningan. Within a few seconds, I already see a series of news strips about it. According to them, it was around 7.40am (GMT+7) this morning when it happened. The target was J.W. Marriott hotel and Ritz Carlton hotel. Several victims had died in this tragedy. Some of them are foreigners, and the others are local civilians.
Sympathies comes from people all over the world. Cursing this bomb attack. People gathered in front of the Ritz Carlton hotel and put flowers there as a symbol of their sympathies and deep condolences for all the victims fallen in this tragedy.
This bomb attack also brings a lot of disappointment to the Manchester United fans in this country. They are supposed to play an exhibition game here on July 20th. I believe they do not want to break their fans’ hearts. Changing the plan must be hard for them. It can’t be helped. Who can play football in a city which just got a bomb attack 3 days before the game?
Today’s radios, televisions, and internet news are all about this attack. Making my father worry about me. He called me when I was attending a new system’s training in my office this afternoon. I set my cell phone into silent mode. Which finally made him get my little sister to call me again asking “Where are you now brother?”. It was around 8pm this evening. I said “I’m still on the way home from work. I’m stuck in the middle of heavy traffic jam”. She said, “OK then. Please be careful”. I said, “OK” and continue riding home.
May all the victims of this bomb attack rest in peace… For all the victim’s families, I send you my deepest condolences… Be strong… Indonesia and the world cry for you… Even the sky cries tonight… May all creatures live in peace and harmony…
